Founder and Principal

Mike Stark’s passion and commitment to serving others and helping them succeed led him to establish American Financial Advisors, LLC. Inspired by his father’s instruction in an investment class in high school, his interest in investing led him to become a Registered Investment Advisor in 1991. The strengths and added value Mike brings to the firm’s clients are deeply rooted in discipline and integrity. Mike’s education and military background engendered his belief in a simple investment strategy that includes sound, honest advice and guidance for individuals and families. His approach of always putting clients first has earned their confidence, respect and lasting friendships.

Mike was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and completed flight school in Pensacola. He flew Marine attack fighters for 20 years, both on active duty and in the reserves. He retired as a Lt. Colonel, after logging over 3000 hours in the A-4 and F-18, with tours in the Blacksheep squadron, the Flying Gators, and as a test pilot for four years in VX-5 at the Naval Weapons Centa, China Lake. Captain Mike has been with Delta Air Lines since 1987 and is based in Atlanta on the 767/400.

Mike provides periodic emails on investment highlights and Delta Air Lines updates. He is a frequent contact for national publications and currently hosts a weekly radio show – “Common Sense” on NewsTalk Radio 1160 AM in Atlanta. AFA has been recognized in Financial Advisor Magazine in the past as one of top 500 advisors in the country.

Mike completed the CFP® education requirements and is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). He graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1979 with degrees in both Environmental Science and Urban Planning. Prior to founding AFA, Mike was a founding partner of “The Advisor”. He reads and travels extensively, enjoys exotic cars, live music, and gardening. He lives in the historic district of Marietta, Georgia in a home built in 1895.
